The number of stray cats and dogs in Ecuador is shocking: a colony of 50 to 100 animals in a park or abandoned building is no surprise in Ecuador. Although the government in Ecuador is doing a number of good things with regard to this issue, including setting up sterilization projects (through mobile veterinary clinics with government-owned veterinarians), the main challenge seems to be to bring about a culture change within the population (being responsible pet ownership).

Stichting Cats & Dogs helps about 400 stray cats and dogs in Guayaquil through food and medical care. She also operates a no-cage, no-kill, lifetime cat sanctuary and adoption center in Playas where the most vulnerable animals are taken (the group with the lowest survival rate on the street: usually blind, sick or old animals). The shelter offers space for about 150 cats. By means of a number of photos at the bottom of the page you will get an impression of what we are doing in Ecuador.

We are also desperately looking for donations for our activities in Ecuador.
